The minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Abdeslam Ould Mohamed Saleh participated on Wednesday, as a keynote speaker, in the high-level session on mobilizing funds to combat poverty and hunger, organized on the sidelines of the 2024 Spring Meetings by the Group of Twenty, which is currently chaired by Brazil.
During his intervention, the minister reviewed Mauritania’s vision on how best to support it in implementing its programs and policies to combat poverty and hunger, as well as the various challenges facing development to reduce poverty.
The Minister also addressed the great challenges related to the differences in economic growth rates and demographic growth and the proportionality that must occur between them in order to make progress in economic development.
The Mauritanian experience in social protection, synergy, combating poverty, fragility and social solidarity was also presented.
The high-level session on the theme “A Just World, a Sustainable Planet” was co-enriched by representatives of key actors involved in the global fight against poverty and hunger, Brazilian Minister of Finance Fernando Haddad, World Bank President Ajay Banga, South African Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana, USAID Administrator Samantha Power and Norwegian Minister of International Development Anne-Beth Christiansen Tvenirimi
The panel discussion was moderated by Nobel laureate Estelle Develo in Economics.
