The visit of the President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, to Mauritania on Thursday is part of a long path of fraternity, friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Mauritania and Senegal.
This visit comes to mark the solidity of the old ties between the two countries woven by the bonds of blood, spiritual relations, geography, culture, history, borders and the inextricable unity of destiny between two peoples physically united by a unique and special unity.
The presence of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL Ghazouani, at the inauguration ceremony of his Senegalese counterpart, and the latter’s choice to dedicate his first trip abroad to Mauritania, is the greatest evidence of the strong bond between these two leaders and their sincere will to activate the ties of brotherhood and cooperation between the two countries, build new bridges between the two banks of the Senegal River, continue to formulate their bilateral cooperation and unify their views on changes, in order to open up each time to new horizons.
Hence the common and clear desire of the two leaders to raise bilateral cooperation to the level of ambition as well as the projects they believe in in order to build a better future through an innovative development path that takes into account, and inevitably necessary today, the strengthening of bilateral cooperation to make Mauritania and Senegal an engine of prosperity in the region.
Mauritania and Senegal, the two main players in the region who share the same values and have the same faith in the virtues of peace, democracy and solidarity, are more aware than ever of the great responsibility entrusted to them, and will undoubtedly be able to work fully and intelligently on their specific strengths in building a new doctrinal foundation in relations, to face the multiple challenges so that their centers of cooperation remain dynamic and effective in serving the common ideals of their peoples.
The current visit of the Senegalese Head of State at the head of a large delegation will serve as a new driving force to expand the dynamic partnership between the two countries in many and varied sectors, such as fishing, energy and trade, and will mark the beginning of a new phase in the sustainability of the established tradition of consultation and exchange on key current issues and concerns of Africa that is going through a turbulent context, as the agenda of the two leaders is expected to address the most Africa-related topics in light of Mauritania’s current assumption of the rotating presidency of the African Union.
During this visit, shared commitment, proximity and exchange of views will be used to revisit tools of cooperation in order to respond to evolving developments and needs in an ever-changing environment.
Far from the legitimate expectations based on this visit across the two banks of the river, Mauritanians, all Mauritanians, are proud of this wonderful relationship, friendship and appreciation, which was reflected in the choice of their country as the first foreign travel destination for the Senegalese president.
Welcome to the Senegalese President to his country Mauritania.
