President of Republic Returns to Nouakchott From Rome

On 30 January, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, returned to Nouakchott from Rome after participating in the Italy-Africa Summit.

Upon his arrival at Nouakchott International Airport, the Head of State was welcomed by the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Bilal Messoud, the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministers Counselors at the Presidency of the Republic, several members of the government, the Chief of Special Staff of the President of the Republic, the Wali Mouçaid of Western Nouakchott, and the Vice President of the Nouakchott Region.

In addition to the President of the Republic, more than twenty African heads of state and government and 57 international delegations participated in the summit, as well as representatives of the European Union, regional organizations, and multilateral institutions operating on the continent, such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. During the summit, the discussions focused on the strategic plan presented by the Italian government aimed at reassessing the approach to cooperation with the African continent.

On the sidelines of the summit, the President of the Republic met with several of his counterparts, heads of state of brotherly and friendly countries, as well as with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, with whom he discussed the means to strengthen and develop cooperation in all areas.

His Excellency, the President of the Republic was accompanied by a large delegation including:

-Dr. Mariem Mint Dah, the First Lady; and Messrs.:

-Mokhtar Ould Diay, the Minister in Charge of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic;

-Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad;

–Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Dahi, the Ambassador of Mauritania in Rome;

–El Hacen Ould Ahmed, the Director General of State Protocol.
