President of Republic Grants Pardon to Gamou Achour Salem, Mariem Cheikh Dieng

The Presidency of the Republic announced that, by a decree issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani has granted a presidential pardon to Ms. Gamou Achour Salem and Ms. Mariem Cheikh Dieng.

The decision provides for the remission of the remaining prison sentences, as well as the cancellation of fines and judicial fees.

According to the Presidency’s statement, the measure reflects the President’s commitment to the values of tolerance and clemency, while contributing to the consolidation of social peace and national harmony.

The decision is also part of the President’s approach to strengthening national unity, promoting a spirit of responsibility and citizenship, and upholding the principles of the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary, and the institutions of the Republic.
