Mauritania Commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
On Sunday 10 December in Nouakchott, Mauritania commemorated the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, under the slogan “Dignity, Liberty and Justice for All.”
The activities commemorating this anniversary this year were characterized by the participation of the Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society in the fifteen regional civil society forums, located throughout the national territory, as a way to create a comprehensive national human rights awareness, through the involvement, formation, mobilization and sensitization of actors and stakeholders at the national level. The Assistant Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Rasoul Ould El Khal, stressed in his speech on the occasion that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights constitutes a reference document that enshrines the principle of “recognition of the inherent dignity of all members of the human family with their equal and inalienable rights based on freedom, justice and equality.”
He added that the commemoration of International Human Rights Day is distinguished this year by the Human Rights Initiative (75), which is managed by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in cooperation with its partners.
