Seminar on the Achievements of the National Commission of Human Rights

Nouakchott, 17 September 2020 (AMI) -A seminar on the achievements of the National Commission of Human Rights has started on Thursday in Nouakchott. According to the president of the commission, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Bouhoubeiny, this meeting sheds light on the important achievements realized by the national commission on the field of Human Rights.
He said that the commission has recently organized a caravan of Human Rights in most of the wilayas of the country to get information on the situation of the citizens.
He also added that the encounter between the commission and European Union, which placed Human Rights at the heart of the public policies, enabled the commission to put in place a mechanism allowing it get informed on the problems and issues, especially those regarding slavery. In the regard, the commission said that from now on it is impossible to pretend the existence of unfounded slavery cases.
Through this meeting, the commission addressed three messages:
The first message is addressed to those who practice the crimes of slavery, informing them that heavy penalties would be inflicted on them.
The second message is addressed to those who experience any sort of slavery, ensuring them of the total support of the commission.
The final message is for the judiciary and administrative authorities to remind them to deal seriously with any presumed case of slavery.
Mr. Ould Bouhoubeiny stated that the commission will organize a caravan on the first of October in some Wilayas. He invited Human rights Organizations and Diplomatic missions, which are interested in this event to participate.
