His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, received, Thursday morning, at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, a delegation from the Executive Office of the Association of Mauritanian Ulemas (Scholars), led by its Secretary General, Mr. Cheikh Ould Saleh.
At the end of the meeting, the secretary general of the Association made a statement to the Mauritanian news agency (AMI), in which he indicated that the meeting was friendly and positive and provided an opportunity to discuss a number of questions posed that the President pledged to address.
“It should be noted that the Association of Mauritanian Ulemas, in its new constitution, after the merger into it of several organizations of Ulemas and Imams, is an apolitical voluntary association whose slogan is the noble hadith: (If Allah wants to do good to a person, He makes him comprehend the religion) and the values of authenticity, moderation, and commitment.
This association consists of a conference comprising the Supreme Scientific Council, an executive office headed by the Secretary General, an advisory body, and scientific offices in the wilayas (regions).
The statutes of the organization also stipulate that any Mauritanian scholar is considered a member of this association.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Dah Ould Sidi Ould Amar Taleb, Minister of Islamic Affairs and Original Education, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine, Director of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic; Mr. Ahmed Ould Neinny, Adviser at the Presidency of the Republic; and Mr. Sidi Mohamed Ould Sidi Jaafar, Officer in charge of special duties at the Presidency of the Republic.
