Agriculture Minister Discusses with a World Bank Mission Team

On Tuesday in Nouakchott, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Momma Ould Beibat Hamahoullah, discussed with a mission team from the World Bank the results of the regional project to support the Sahel Irrigation Initiative in Mauritania “PARIIS”.

 

The meeting also dealt with the results of the field visit made by the Regional Director of Water to some examples of innovations carried out by the regional project to support the irrigation initiative in the Sahel in Mauritania, which were integrated into some activities such as collective irrigated farms, dams and rainwater control basins.

The mission team expressed its satisfaction with these innovations, which would improve agricultural production, productivity and the standard of living of the target groups.

During the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture valued the financing portfolio provided by the World Bank to our country, especially in the agricultural sector, explaining that this cooperation will continue in the coming years to serve both sides, praising what the PARIS project has achieved in its areas of intervention.

The Regional Director for Water for West African States praised the farmers’ engagement with these innovations, and the good results of the project’s interventions in these regions.

The visit of the Regional Director of Water in West African States to our country is currently part of the follow-up and inspection of the activities implemented by the regional project to support the Sahel irrigation initiative.

The visit included some of the projects that have been completed in the Wilaya of T’rarza, such as the farms in N’teikan, Ergeiwat farm in Jidr el-Muhghen, in addition to other projects.

It is worth mentioning that the mission team was headed by its resident representative in Mauritania and with the membership of the Regional Director of Water in West African States.

The meeting took place in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Larbi, the Coordinator of the PARIIS project, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Marrakchi, and a number of relevant experts from the World Bank.
