President of Republic Receives IFC Delegation

On 21 December, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received a delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) led by Mr. Makhtar Diop, the Managing Director of the International Financial Company; a World Bank Group institution.
In a statement to the Mauritanian news agency after the meeting, Mr. Anne Senges said that the delegation of his institution was honored to meet His Excellency the President of the Republic in the presence of the Minister of Economic Affairs and Promotion of Productive Sectors.
He added that the meeting addressed cooperation between Mauritania and the IFC, the most important body for financing private sector activities in developing countries.
In this respect, it pays particular attention to the African continent, which benefits from a third of the financing resources granted by the IFC, as he put it.
The Adviser to the IFC Managing Director indicated that his institution believes that Mauritania has significant potential on which the IFC relies to establish, together with the government, a strategy aimed at creating opportunities and improving the living conditions of women by providing them with jobs in the private sector. To this end, the delegation will have talks with the Mauritanian private sector actors.
He stressed that the meeting with His Excellency the President of the Republic also focused on investment opportunities in the banking sector and the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises.
The same applies to the mining, agricultural, and livestock sectors because of their importance to Mauritania. He stressed that the IFC’s visit seeks to activate and strengthen cooperation with Mauritania in various fields.
