The 34th summit of African Union (AU) head of states and the AU government has started today, Saturday, via videoconference in Addis Ababa with the participation of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
The summit takes place in the presence of the secretary general of the United Nations, the president of Palestine, the secretaries general of the Arab League, representatives of the continent’s development partners, and distinguished hosts.
During the summit, the African leaders are due to elect the chairman of the African Union commission, its members, and six other AU commissions.
This summit is being held under the slogan’’ Art, Culture, and heritage: levers to build Africa of our ambitions’’.
It will also discuss the constraints that prevent Africa from dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, the unstable situation in the Horn of Africa, the Libyan issue, the fight against terrorism in the Sahel region, and the continental free-trade area, and other topics.
