Human Rights Commissioner: Mauritanian Government has created Bodies and Programs to Assist Marginalized Groups

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Cheikh Ahmedou Ould Ahmed Salem Ould Sidi, said that the human rights situation in Mauritania has witnessed remarkable progress in the field of promoting and protecting civil, political, economic and social rights.

In a speech on Wednesday at the 49th regular session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the commissioner added that Mauritanian government has created bodies and programs aiming at integrating, training, and assisting groups that have been marginalized and disadvantaged to make them in a decent position in society.

He declared that the Mauritanian President, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, in his Wadane speech urged the need to vercome the remnants of injustice in our cultural heritage, and purify discourse and behavior of prejudices and false stereotypes.
