Following the ceremony, the President granted an audience to the Namibian ambassador in the presence of Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad.
Following the meeting, the Namibian ambassador stated in a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency that he was honored today to present his credentials to His Excellency the President in his capacity as his country’s ambassador, appointed by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Namibia.
The ambassador added that Mauritania and Namibia share many commonalities, foremost among which is their membership in the Atlantic community, noting that the Atlantic Ocean represents an important strategic resource for both countries due to the promising economic and development opportunities it offers.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening the exchange of expertise between the two countries, particularly in the sustainable use of marine resources and the potential of the ocean, noting that both Namibia and Mauritania also share a desert environment rich in resources, represented by the Namib and Sahara deserts, respectively.
He noted that this shared environment opens up significant opportunities for cooperation in the exploration and development of natural resources through the exchange of knowledge and expertise, thereby contributing to development, advancing the common interests of both peoples.
The Namibian ambassador emphasized the importance of investing in young people, given that they constitute the largest segment of the African continent’s population, and stressed the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of training, capacity-building, and the exchange of expertise, thereby ensuring that young people acquire the necessary skills and are prepared to shoulder future responsibilities.
