President of Republic Launches National Appeal from Benichab to Enhance Urban Cleanliness and Aesthetics
His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, launched a national appeal on Friday evening from the town of Benichab, calling on all citizens, elected officials, presidents of regional councils, mayors, and civil society actors to engage in a nationwide mobilization to reduce waste accumulation, improve cleanliness, and enhance the urban landscape across the country’s cities.
The appeal was issued during a meeting he chaired with the cadres and notables of the Benichab Moughataa, marking the second and final leg of his working visit to the Inchiri Wilaya. On the occasion, the President expressed his deep gratitude to the residents of the Moughataa for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him, conveying his pleasure at visiting the town and praising its urban appearance and the close attention devoted to cleanliness and environmental protection.
He explained that the visit aims to closely examine the main challenges facing the residents of the Moughataa, listen to their concerns and future aspirations, and exchange views on issues affecting both the Moughataa and the nation as a whole.
Responding to remarks and interventions from participants, the President noted that the town of Benichab offers a message of hope regarding the feasibility of addressing the cleanliness challenges facing cities across the country, given its commendable focus on environmental protection, street cleanliness, and tree planting. He emphasized that established objectives can be achieved when genuine commitment and determination are brought together.
The President called on citizens nationwide to demonstrate the same civic-mindedness and dedication shown by the people of Benichab, stressing that the level of cleanliness in cities is a key indicator of the quality of local governance.
He praised the civic spirit and environmental awareness prevailing in the Benichab Moughataa, as reflected in the clean condition of its streets and its emphasis on greenery, describing it as a model worthy of emulation across the country.
In the same context, the President described the current state of cleanliness and urban organization in most of the country’s cities as “unsatisfactory,” asserting that sincere commitment and clearly defined objectives are sufficient to improve the situation, as demonstrated by the experience of Benichab.
The President announced that he had instructed the administrative authorities in all Wilayas to make cleanliness and the improvement of urban aesthetics a priority within their respective jurisdictions.
Renewing his heartfelt thanks to the residents of Benichab for their warm and popular reception, the President apologized for the delay caused by circumstances beyond his control.
Furthermore, he assured the public that the government authorities would review the various requests and proposals submitted by the local population and elected officials, noting that he had instructed the relevant ministers to study them and work toward implementing viable initiatives.
Regarding basic services, the President reassured residents of the Moughataa about the future of the town’s energy supply, announcing that a project is planned to connect Benichab to the nearby high-voltage power line in order to meet its current needs and support future expansion.
As part of strengthened efforts to protect the environment and combat desertification, the President announced that he had instructed the ministry responsible for the environment to develop an integrated program aimed at transforming Benichab into a green city. At the same time, he commended the local initiatives and efforts undertaken by residents in the field of tree planting.
In the areas of economic development and vocational training, the President announced the decision to establish a specialized training center in Benichab dedicated to artisanal mining activities, with completion scheduled for 2027.
During the meeting, the ministers of Education and Reform of the Educational System, Health, Energy and Petroleum, Mines and Industry, and Water and Sanitation, together with the General Delegate for National Solidarity and the Fight against Exclusion (“Taazour”) and the Commissioner for Food Security, delivered presentations outlining the main achievements of their respective departments in the Inchiri Wilaya, as well as ongoing projects, implemented programs, and future action plans aimed at strengthening sectoral interventions and supporting local development efforts.
For his part, the Mayor of Benichab, Mr. Mohamed Abdallahi Ould Mohamedou, welcomed the President on behalf of the municipality’s residents, emphasizing that the visit holds special significance for the population as an opportunity for direct communication with the Head of State and for conveying their concerns and aspirations.
The mayor praised the development and service projects and interventions carried out in Benichab and the surrounding areas, highlighting their positive impact on improving living conditions and strengthening the foundations of local development.
Other participants welcomed the achievements made across various essential sectors and infrastructure within the Moughataa, while presenting specific requests and identifying key priorities for the local population.
The meeting was attended by the Wali of Inchiri, Mr. Moulaye Idriss Ould Sass Ould Guig; the official delegation accompanying the President of the Republic; the President of the Inchiri Regional Council, Mr. Cheikh Malainine Ould Abeid Ould El Gharabi; the Hakem of Benichab, Mr. Cheikh Mohamed El Hacen Ould Amar Bey; the Mayor of the municipality, Mr. Mohamed Abdallahi Ould Mohamedou; the Deputy of the Moughataa, Mr. Ali Ould Dawla; as well as local administrative and security authorities.
