Mauritania Commemorates United Nations Public Service Day

The Ministry of Public Service and Labor commemorated the United Nations Public Service Day this Tuesday in Nouakchott under the theme: “Digitizing the Public Service for a Renewed, Transparent, and Efficient Administration.” The event was overseen by the Minister of Public Service and Labor, Ms. Meriem Mint Boïdiel Ould Houmeyd, and attended by the Minister of Digital Transformation and Modernization of the Administration, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Bedda Etfagha.

The commemoration of this day coincides with the direct recruitment of 120 engineers and senior technicians in the field of IT for the benefit of several ministerial departments—a step that reflects the State’s focus on accelerating digital transformation and developing national skills capable of keeping pace with the requirements of modern administration.

In her speech on this occasion, the Minister of Public Service and Labor stated that Mauritania realized early on that digital transformation represents a fundamental baseline for improving the performance of public institutions and strengthening the competitiveness of the national economy. She noted that over recent years, the country has launched a number of digital platforms and services, developed its IT infrastructure, strengthened cybersecurity systems, and expanded the use of digital systems in administrative management and public service delivery.

She added that the coincidence of commemorating this day alongside the recruitment of 120 IT engineers and senior technicians reflects the State’s commitment to investing in human resources, as HR serves as the primary engine for the digital transformation project and the driver of its development and sustainability.

For his part, the Minister of Digital Transformation and Modernization of the Administration indicated that the vision put forward by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazouani—which the government of Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Diay is actively working to implement—is based on bringing the administration closer to the citizen, accelerating public services, and expanding their reach.

He stressed that his department is working in coordination with the Ministry of Public Service, striving to modernize the national administration, simplify its procedures, and leverage artificial intelligence applications and modern technologies to increase performance and improve the quality of public services.

The program for the Public Service Day commemoration included a technical session dedicated to presentations on the career paths of public servants, public sector work ethics, the rights and duties of State employees and contractual agents, as well as a review of the administrative procedures manual for human resources management.
