The Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Dr. Abdallahi Ould Souleymane Ould Cheikh Sidiya, held talks on Sunday in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, with the Vice President of Operations of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, Dr. Rami Ahmed. The meeting was attended by the Bank’s Regional Director for Mauritania, Mr. Ahmed Ag Aboubakerne.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 2026 IsDB Group Annual Meetings, focused on the portfolio of development projects funded by the Islamic Development Bank in Mauritania. This portfolio has experienced significant growth in performance and monitoring this year, driven notably by the integration of several essential new projects with a direct socio-economic impact.
Key projects added to this year’s portfolio include:
- The construction and equipping of a new, fully comprehensive maternity, pediatric, and neonatal hospital.
- The construction and equipping of the ‘National Cardiology Center 2’ to improve specialized healthcare coverage.
- The electrification of isolated rural areas.
- The construction of a high-voltage power line.
The IsDB Group’s current financing portfolio in our country includes twelve active projects, totaling nearly $500 million USD.
