Environment Minister Leaves for Uzbekistan To Participate in GEF General Assembly

On May 29, Ms. Messaouda Mint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, left Nouakchott for the Republic of Uzbekistan to participate in the eighth session of the Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which will be held in Samarkand from May 30 to June 6, 2026.
Representatives from 186 member countries of the GEF will take part in this international event, alongside government officials, technical and financial partners, international organizations, civil society representatives, private sector actors, and young people from around the world.
Mauritania’s participation in this session reflects its continued commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, as well as its determination to strengthen efforts to adapt to climate change, in line with its national priorities and international environmental obligations.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, the Mauritanian delegation will participate in meetings of the African Group of GEF beneficiaries, in addition to a series of bilateral meetings and thematic sessions dedicated to environmental financing mechanisms, biodiversity protection, and innovative solutions that promote sustainable development.
