Public Service Minister holds talk with the Director of the ISSA

The Minister of Public Service and Labor, Mr. Mariam Mint Beigel Ould Hamid, held talks on Thursday in Geneva with the Director of the International Social Security Association, Jan Aschmer, on the sidelines of her participation in the 365th session of the Governing Body of the International Labor Organization.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Mauritania and the ILO, as well as ongoing preparations for the “Social Security General Forums” scheduled to take place in Nouakchott from 21 to 23 April.

Discussions focused on avenues for strengthening technical support to Mauritania, particularly in modernizing social security systems, advancing the digitization of services, improving governance and transparency, and expanding social protection to better cover vulnerable populations, in line with international standards.

On this occasion, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing reforms in the social security sector, with the aim of promoting social justice and supporting economic development. She also highlighted the important role the International Social Security Association can play as a strategic partner in this process.

For his part, the ISSA Director expressed his organization’s readiness to actively contribute to the upcoming forums by sharing international expertise and best practices, thereby supporting the success of the event and the achievement of its objectives.
