President of Nouakchott Region Selected to Represent Africa on Steering Committee of Milan Pact on Urban Food Policy

Ms. Fatimetou Abdel Malick, President of the Nouakchott region, has been selected to represent the African continent as a member of the Steering Committee of the Milan Pact on Urban Food Policy, having received the highest number of votes, alongside the Governor of the City of Nairobi, Kenya.

This decision follows a voting process that lasted approximately four weeks, during which only two seats were allocated to Africa within this international body, which brings together more than 330 cities worldwide.

This recognition reflects the prominent position that the Nouakchott region has achieved at the continental and international levels, thanks to its active involvement in urban and food policy, within the framework of what is known as city diplomacy.

The Pact’s Steering Committee is responsible for several tasks, including advising the General Secretariat, representing the signatory cities, contributing to the development and implementation of strategic plans, strengthening cooperation and the exchange of experiences among cities, supporting the accession of new cities to the Pact, and participating in advocacy efforts at the regional and international levels.
