Human Rights Commissioner Participates in 61st Session of Human Rights Council

The opening of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council commenced today, Monday, in Geneva, with the participation of His Excellency the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Sidi Ahmed Ould Benane, alongside numerous senior international leaders and government officials.

The opening session featured remarks by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations; Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; H.E. Mr. Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro, President of the Human Rights Council; and H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock, President of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Commissioner’s participation reflects the Government’s commitment to strengthening its active presence in international human rights forums, reaffirming its dedication to constructive cooperation with various United Nations mechanisms and consolidating a national approach based on respect for rights, freedoms, and the promotion of the rule of law.

The Commissioner is scheduled to deliver the statement of the Mauritanian delegation before the Council, highlighting significant developments achieved by the country in the promotion and protection of human rights, as well as efforts undertaken to implement international commitments and recommendations issued by review and follow-up mechanisms.
