Mauritania Categorically Rejects US Ambassador’s Remarks Supporting Israel’s Control Over Middle East

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has affirmed its categorical rejection of the US ambassador to Israel’s remarks on the possibility of accepting Israeli control over the Middle East, stressing that these remarks violate the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad on 22 February, it reiterated that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip are occupied Palestinian territories according to international legality resolutions, and that any attempt to perpetuate a reality contrary to international law in this regard is rejected and invalid.

The statement also stressed the Mauritanian government’s unwavering support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with al-Quds al-Sharqiya as its capital, within the framework of a just and comprehensive solution that achieves lasting peace in the region.
