On the sidelines of the Food Security Conference held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on February 4 and 5, His Excellency the Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Mr. Abdoullah Souleymane Cheikh Sidiya, held a meeting with the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Mr. Alvaro Lario.
The discussions focused on evaluating the existing partnership between Mauritania and the Fund, with particular emphasis on the pivotal role played by the Fund in financing sustainable rural development projects and advancing agricultural sectors.
During the meeting, the Minister underscored Mauritania’s strong commitment to supporting small-scale producers and enhancing their resilience in the face of climate change. He also praised the positive outcomes of the Fund’s interventions in improving the livelihoods of the rural population.
For his part, Mr. Alvaro Lario expressed the Fund’s appreciation for the seriousness shown by Mauritania in implementing joint projects. He stressed the Fund’s commitment to continue supporting Mauritania’s efforts to achieve food sovereignty, particularly through financing agricultural innovations, supporting rural infrastructure, and ensuring the integration of production chains from the fields to the markets.
