Human Rights Commissioner returns to Nouakchott

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Sid’Ahmed Ould Banane, returned to Nouakchott yesterday morning, Saturday, from Geneva, after participating in the 51st session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review.

During this session, the Commissioner presented the national report of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on the fourth round of the Universal Periodic Review mechanism.

During the review of Mauritania’s national report, representatives from 100 countries praised the progress made in the country’s human rights record, particularly in terms of strengthening social protection and adopting and implementing the national strategy for the promotion and protection of human rights and other related areas, which have seen concrete measures to promote and protect human rights in recent years.

The Commissioner was accompanied on this mission by a delegation comprising Mr Harouna Traoré, Special Adviser to the President of the Republic, Ms Fatimitou Njayan, Adviser to the Prime Minister, and representatives of various relevant government departments.
