His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, received in audience on Thursday at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott Mr. Amadou Diagne, roving ambassador and special envoy of the President of the Republic of The Gambia, and President of the Forum of Operators for the Guarantee of Economic Emergence in Africa (FOGECA).
At the end of the audience, the special envoy made the following statement to the press:
“In my capacity as roving ambassador of the President of the Republic of The Gambia and President of FOGECA (the Forum of Operators for the Guarantee of Economic Emergence in Africa), I visited the Presidential Palace today with the support of His Excellency the President of the Republic of The Gambia, Mr. Adama Barrow, who recommended me to His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
The purpose of this visit was to present to His Excellency the recommendations and conclusions resulting from the major Invest in Africa and Invest in Dubai forum, held last December in Dubai, at which the President of the Republic of Mauritania was the guest of honor for the 2025–2026 edition.
This is a forum that was created about twenty years ago, whose mission is to promote economic integration in Africa by encouraging investment in Africa, by Africans and for Africans.
In view of the remarkable work accomplished under the leadership of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the Forum’s Executive Committee decided this year to designate Mauritania as guest of honor.
This audience therefore provided an opportunity to officially submit to His Excellency the recommendations and conclusions of the forum, with a view to their transmission to the African Union Commission as well as to the Chairperson of the Union.
The positive assessments expressed by His Excellency President Adama Barrow, as well as by other African authorities, regarding the progress achieved in Mauritania were confirmed following this meeting. We were able to appreciate the scale of the work underway, particularly in the field of infrastructure—factors that should encourage the African private sector to invest more in Mauritania and to support the President of the Republic in the implementation of his economic policy.
The meeting with His Excellency also enabled us to better understand the major orientations of the economic policy implemented by the Mauritanian government. On this occasion, I would like to recall that the public sector cannot shoulder everything alone; the private sector must support governments to ensure the success of economic policies.
FOGECA, which I chair, fully understands this, which is why the Forum chose His Excellency the President of the Republic as patron and guest of honor of the 2025 edition. We also came primarily to seek His Excellency’s guidance and recommendations, in full alignment with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
I leave this meeting with His Excellency fully satisfied with the exchanges we had. They enabled us to note that the President of the Republic fully shares our vision, as he is concerned not only with the economic development of Mauritania, but also with that of the entire African continent and its economic integration.
This conviction is further reinforced by His Excellency’s constant presence and active participation in all meetings devoted to economic integration in Africa.
Thank you.”
The meeting took place in the presence of the Minister in charge of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha; the Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Tall Ousmane; and the Ambassador of the Republic of The Gambia to Mauritania, His Excellency Mr. Cheikh Omar Faye.
