President of the Republic oversees the inauguration of Development Projects in Various Fields in Nouadhibou
Nouadhibou
His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, today Tuesday in the city of Nouadhibou, inaugurated important development projects covering various vital sectors, as part of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of national independence.
These projects fall within the framework of strengthening national maritime sovereignty, enhancing fishery resources, and developing the industrial infrastructure related to the fisheries sector, in addition to bringing the services of the National Social Security Fund closer to citizens and enhancing their access to public media services.
Among the most prominent of these achievements is the inauguration of a fully equipped port for docking and support dedicated to the Mauritanian Coast Guard, which represents a qualitative addition to the maritime surveillance infrastructure. The cost of constructing this port amounted to 24 million euros, funded jointly by the Mauritanian state and a grant provided by the German Development Bank (KfW).
This port is distinguished by high technical specifications, with the sea bridge measuring 700 meters in length, while the total length of the docking quay reaches 370 meters. It also includes a dedicated maintenance area and integrated water and electricity networks, making it capable of accommodating and operating patrol boats and research vessels.
The projects also included the establishment of two industrial factories in the field of fish product valorization. The first is an industrial complex belonging to ATAC SEAFOODS SA, with a construction cost of 25 million US dollars, specializing in processing and valorizing small pelagic fish, such as mackerel, sardines, and anchovies, with production primarily aimed at export according to international standards.
The daily processing capacity of this factory, which provides 300 direct jobs and 600 indirect jobs, is 500 tons, with a storage capacity of up to 12,000 tons.
These inaugurations also included the opening of a regional station of the National Social Security Fund and a new headquarters for the regional station of Mauritania Radio in the Dakhlet Nouadhibou region, enhancing the population’s access to social protection services and bringing public media services closer to them.
The mayor of Nouadhibou, Deputy Qassem Ould Bellali, had expressed in a speech earlier his welcome, on behalf of the city of Nouadhibou, to the President of the Republic during his blessed visit to the city, noting that this visit reflects the depth of care His Excellency dedicates to comprehensive development and his constant concern to bring public services closer to the citizen.
He said that the visit holds special significance due to its inauguration and launch of strategic projects affecting important vital sectors, foremost among them strengthening the capabilities of the Coast Guard to protect fishery resources and firmly combat illegal immigration, noting that the President’s visit program carries accomplishments at the municipality level. In line with what he has done across the country, His Excellency reaffirms his commitment to monitoring the implementation of public policies on the ground and listening to the concerns of citizens.
Local, elected and security authorities attended these inaugurations.
