On 13 December, in Nouakchott, Mr Abdallahi Souleymane Cheikh Sidiya, Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, signed a concessional loan agreement with the Saudi Development Fund to finance the electricity interconnection project between Mauritania and Mali, amounting to 225 million Saudi riyals, the equivalent of approximately MRU 2.38 billion.
The project aims to build 182 km of high-voltage electricity transmission lines between the cities of Aoueinat Ezbel and Nema. This line will integrate the existing networks in the east and west of the country, on the one hand, and transfer surplus production to consumption areas, on the other.
It will also supply cheap, clean electricity to towns and cities along the line, connecting the national network to the Republic of Mali’s electricity network.
