On 26 November, Ms. Fatimetou Mint Abdelmalick, President of the Nouakchott region, received a French delegation led by Mr. Nicolas Forissier, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Investment Attractiveness, currently on a working and courtesy visit to Mauritania.
The meeting focused on ways to develop Mauritanian-French relations, particularly between the Nouakchott region and French cities, especially in areas of development of common interest that are priorities for the region.
During the meeting, two presentations were made. The first, by Mr. Saleck Ahmed Cherif, Director of Studies, Planning, and Cooperation for the Nouakchott region, focused on the region and its areas of expertise, the city of Nouakchott and the challenges it faces, as well as its future prospects within the framework of its regional development plan.
The second presentation was given by Mr. Tijani Cheikh Mohamedou, Head of the Statistics and Information Systems Department at the Nouakchott region, and included the project implemented by the region for the rehabilitation of the Taazour and Tarhil lakes in cooperation with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, as part of the region’s contribution to the emergency program to modernize the city of Nouakchott.
In her speech on the occasion, the president of the Nouakchott region thanked the Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and French Investment Attractiveness and the delegation accompanying him for this visit, which testifies to the excellent relations between Mauritania and France and their common desire to strengthen them further, recalling that the Nouakchott region has maintained partnerships with many French cities for years, and emphasizing that this meeting will strengthen these relations.
She added that this partnership has enabled many relevant measures to be taken, emphasizing the importance of this visit and what the region expects from it to boost and deepen cooperation, and expressing her conviction that it will open new prospects and lay the groundwork for a broader partnership.
For his part, the French minister expressed his delight and that of the delegation accompanying him, composed of business leaders and senior officials, at the warm welcome that reflects the strength of relations between the two countries, reiterating his support for the region within the framework of existing partnerships between France and Mauritania, and everything that can advance bilateral cooperation.
He stressed the need to establish excellent cooperation between major institutions, particularly between the Nouakchott region and French institutions and companies.
