Prime Minister Receives Italian Ministerial Delegation

On 28 October, in Nouakchott, His Excellency the Prime Minister, Mr. El Moctar Ould Djay, received an Italian ministerial delegation, led by Mr. Antonio Tajani, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, and including Mr. Matteo Piantedosi, Minister of Interior.

The meeting reviewed the distinguished cooperative relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen and develop them, as well as issues of common interest.

At the end of the meeting, the Vice President of the Italian Council of Ministers made the following statement to the Mauritanian news agency:

“The Italian Minister of Interior and I had meetings with the Prime Minister and my colleague, the Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

We are here to strengthen the ties between Italy and Mauritania, which are already strong, but we must move forward. This marks the beginning of a new strategy to foster growth and strengthen relations between the two countries.

Regarding migration, I am pleased with the results of our meeting today and believe that we can play a significant role by working together.

I believe we can work on migration issues because both Mauritania and Italy are stable countries, and this stability predisposes them to play a role in conflict resolution and achieve concrete results. We are here as two Italian ministers to reinforce this message of cooperation and friendship between our two countries.

This afternoon, we will inaugurate the Italian Embassy in Nouakchott, which is another message of friendship and Italy’s political commitment to Mauritania. I hope that all of this will enable Italian companies to come here to work together in a win-win situation and pass on their expertise to Mauritanians.”
