President of Republic Launches National Vegetable Cultivation Campaign, Lays Foundation Stone for Socam Canal Project
His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, in Rosso, the capital of Trarza Wilaya, oversaw the launch of the national vegetable cultivation campaign for the 2025–2026 season and the laying of the foundation stone for the Socam Canal project.
This year’s national vegetable cultivation campaign aims to achieve self-sufficiency in vegetables, a cornerstone of national sovereignty.
The “Socam” Canal project is one of the most prominent initiatives driving the structural transformation of agricultural infrastructure.
The project involves the excavation and rehabilitation of a 34-kilometer-long canal starting from the Senegal River, with the goal of irrigating approximately 16,000 hectares of fertile agricultural land. This will help expand reclaimed areas, enhance local production of vegetables and cereals, and improve water resource management
