Discussions on the Economic and Financial Performance of Mauritania

The Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Mr. Abdallahi Ould Souleymane Ould Cheikh Sidiya, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Mauritania (BCM), Mr. Mohamed Lemine Ould Dhehbi, held a discussion session on Tuesday in Washington with the IMF Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Kenji Okamura, on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, which take place from October 13 to 18, 2025. A high-level delegation attended these meetings.

The discussions focused on Mauritania’s economic performance within the framework of the IMF-supported program, the prospects for planned structural reforms, and the financial and monetary challenges the country is facing. Both parties also exchanged views on the importance of strengthening governance and transparency, which are key to sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as the need to coordinate monetary and fiscal policies, which would help enhance the resilience of the Mauritanian economy to sudden shocks.

The two parties also discussed ways to improve and accelerate the implementation of the agreed reforms, while continuing to closely monitor the implementation of the reform program.This meeting is part of the shared commitment to strengthen relations between Mauritania and the IMF and to provide concrete support to development process.
