President of Republic Visits National Cardiology Center

On 11 August, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, visited the National Cardiology Center (CNC) in Nouakchott.

During this visit, the President of the Republic was briefed on the progress of the third mission of kidney transplant operations carried out at the CNC, which was marked by an unprecedented medical achievement, namely two successful kidney transplant operations, including one for a seven-year-old child, the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa.

These operations form part of the medical cooperation between Mauritania and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. They were supervised by a joint team from the two countries, demonstrating the depth of the partnership and integration in the healthcare field.

With these two operations, the number of kidney transplants carried out in Mauritania has risen to five, reflecting the significant progress made in the capacities of the national health sector, particularly in cutting-edge specialties.

At the end of his visit, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani made a statement to the press, congratulating the members of the Mauritanian medical team and their Algerian counterparts on this major achievement. He hailed the considerable efforts made to improve health services, reaffirming the State’s ongoing support for the development of the national health system in the service of Mauritanian citizens.
