The Ministry of Social Action, Childhood and Family organized on Tuesday in Nouakchott a workshop to present a diagnosis on the institutionalization of gender.
In a speech on the occasion, the Secretary General of the Ministry, Hamoudi Cheikhna Ali, explained that the sector has made gender institutionalization a key pillar of its policies and programs, recognizing that comprehensive and equitable development cannot be achieved without the effective and balanced involvement of all groups, men and women, on an equal footing.
He valued any intervention that supports this trend and is in line with Mauritania’s firm commitment to issues of equity and equality and the consolidation of the principles of social justice.
He pointed out that the ministry launched a national strategy to institutionalize gender, under which it established gender cells in most government sectors, and supported the formation of regional committees to coordinate efforts at the state level, believing that the success of the reform requires an integrated approach, in which roles are complementary at the central and local levels.
For her part, the coordinator of the French expertise “Xpertise”, Ms. Laura Bertache, stressed that this workshop constitutes a fundamental step in the partnership that started since February 2025 with the Ministry of Social Action, Childhood and Family, noting that it is part of the common goal to strengthen institutional mechanisms to coordinate gender policies in a sustainable manner, especially through the activation of sectoral gender units.
She added that the National Strategy for the Institutionalization of Gender constitutes the frame of reference for the integration of gender in public policies in Mauritania.
