Mauritania-Senegal Road Transport of Persons and Goods Agreement enters into force

The Minister of Equipment and Transport, Mr. AlI Ould Veirik, and Senegal’s Minister of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport, Mr. Yakouba Jimme, on Friday at the Rosso ferry buildings, oversaw the joint announcement ceremony of the entry into force of the agreement on the land transport of people and goods between the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Republic of Senegal, by abolishing the principle of unloading cargo at the border.

The Minister of Equipment and Transport explained that this agreement carries many symbols and deep connotations, as it represents an advanced step in the course of bilateral relations and an embodiment of the deep-rooted ties that go back to the depths of history, where the two peoples are linked by ties of kinship, kinship and cultural and social exchange.

He added that this step comes in the context of the utmost importance attached by President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani to our country’s relations with neighboring countries, especially with Senegal, an approach that the government of Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Ajayi is working to translate on the ground in a way that enshrines the spirit of cooperation and embodies complementarity.

He said that this announcement comes in the context of implementing the recommendations emanating from the visit of Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to Mauritania, which enshrined a common orientation towards strengthening bilateral cooperation and opened promising prospects for joint integration between the two countries.

He pointed out that the entry into force of this agreement and the accompanying practical transit facilities would launch a new dynamic to improve the business climate, encourage commercial transactions and expand the circle of human interaction, in line with the will of the leaders of the two brotherly countries, HE President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and HE President of the Republic of Senegal Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.

For his part, the Senegalese Minister of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport expressed his hope that bilateral cooperation between Mauritania and Senegal will continue to be characterized by fruitful exchanges, renewed cordiality and cooperation.

He pointed out that these ancient and renewed ties require officials to manage this common space in an appropriate, humane and equitable manner, noting that mobility has never been an exception in our region, but an inherent feature of our societies, highlighting that this mobility is an integral part of our cultural heritage, a factor of social resilience, cultural transmission and regional integration, and its recognition embodies the common will to regulate it without curbing its natural dynamics.

He praised the fraternal relationship between HE President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and his brother and friend, HE President of the Republic of Senegal, Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, highlighting that their understanding, based on mutual respect, shared vision and service to the common interest, gives this cooperation a strong and sustainable political momentum, and reflects a common ambition to make Mauritanian-Senegalese relations a pillar of stability, peace and integration in our region.

 

 

The Senegalese Minister appreciated the pivotal role played by Mauritanian Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay and his Senegalese counterpart Ousmane Sonko in consolidating these relations, noting that the recent visit by Ousmane Sonko to Mauritania is a strategic milestone, reaffirming the high political will to strengthen sectoral cooperation, facilitate exchanges, and open new horizons for cooperation in areas of common interest.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Rosso, Mr. Bembe Ould Derman, expressed his appreciation for this important step, which is part of the keenness of H.E. President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and H.E. President of Senegal Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye to strengthen the relations of mutual cooperation between the two brotherly Mr. Mohamedou Ould Sidi, President of the National Transport Federation, explained that the interests of transporters are protected in this agreement, as a technical committee was formed to study the prices of transporting goods and people, noting that this agreement will provide transporters with many opportunities.

 

The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Trarza, Mr. Ahmedna Ould Sidab, the Governor of Senegal, the Governor of Senegal, the Governor of Rosso, the Vice President of the Trarza Region, a number of Ministry of Equipment and Transport officials and leaders of the security services in the state.countries.
