President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani affirmed Mauritania’s firm commitment to support international cooperation and strengthen partnerships to achieve sustainable development goals. He, as well, praises the pivotal role played by the OPEC Fund for International Development in supporting development efforts in developing countries, including Mauritania.

The President of the Republic expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Fund and its President, H.E. Dr. Abdelhamid Al-Khalifa, praising the good organization of this session and the high-level platform it provides for the exchange of visions on ways to enhance international cooperation to serve sustainable development. In addition, He highlights that the world is going through a critical juncture that redefines some rules and principles, in light of the growing economic, social and environmental challenges, which requires strengthening integration, exchanging experiences and building partnerships based on trust and transparency.

The President of the Republic pointed out that our country has implemented important structural reforms within the framework of the “Accelerated Growth and Shared Prosperity” strategy, a comprehensive national strategy aimed at achieving sustainable economic development, social justice and rational management of resources, with special focus on youth, women and vulnerable groups, stressing that real development cannot be achieved without sustainable management of natural resources. In the same vein, the president notes that Mauritania has expanded reliance on renewable energy, especially solar and wind, in addition to implementing environmentally friendly agricultural and water projects, and intensified investments in production sectors, especially energy, agriculture and fisheries.

In the field of technology, His Excellency reveals that our country has launched a number of initiatives to support digital transformation and build the technical capacity of youth to enable them to compete in the global digital economy, calling on international investors and donors to explore the promising investment opportunities in Mauritania, especially in the fields of renewable energy, green minerals, marine resources and sustainable agriculture, pointing to the country’s strategic location as a regional logistics center on the banks of the Atlantic. He also expresses his hope that the Forum’s work will result in concrete initiatives that contribute to build a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable world that meets the expectations of developing countries’ peoples.
