Senegalese resident in Rosso: I work comfortably and I don’t feel alienated

The wilaya of Atrarza hosts a number of foreign communities that practice various businesses in an atmosphere of tranquility.
To shed light on the situation of foreign communities in our country, the Mauritanian Press Agency met with Ms. Ancon John from the sisterly Republic of Senegal, who came to the Mauritanian city of Rosso in 2009.

The Senegalese citizen said that she opened a restaurant in the city of Rosso, relying on her skill in cooking, indicating that her keenness to master and diversify meals made her restaurant a favorite among a large audience of the city’s residents.

She stressed that this restaurant was a permanent source of income for her and her family members, as it provides them with permanent job opportunities.
Ms. Ancon John said that she has been moving between Mauritania and Senegal and has never found any kind of harassment, neither from the people nor from the Mauritanian authorities, but feels that she has become an essential element in the social and economic fabric of this city.

She added that she is always keen to respect the laws and regulations in force in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, as she renews her residence after its expiry with the competent authorities, which are always keen on transparency, accuracy and the provision of distinguished services in an atmosphere of comfort and respect for the human soul.

Ms. Ancon called on all arrivals to Mauritania to commit to crossing through the designated crossings, and to go to the competent authorities to grant residency at those crossings and abide by the regulations and laws in force, noting that Mauritania is a hospitable country and the resident does not feel alienated, but rather feels that he is in his first country.
