Nouakchott

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Sid’Ahmed Ould Bouh, signed on Tuesday evening in Nouakchott, with the Ambassador of the French Republic, Mr. Alexandre Garcia, a financial protocol to support the expansion of the Coastal AFtout Water Transmission Network, worth 43 million euros, equivalent to 1.85 billion new ouguiyas.

The project aims to support national efforts to improve access to potable water services, especially in Nouakchott City and residential communities located on the route of the Coastal AFtout pipeline.

In his speech on the occasion, the Minister of Economy and Finance explained that this financing will contribute to alleviating the burden of access to water for many households by ensuring a regular supply of quality water, as well as promoting economic and social activities and contributing to the achievement of the relevant sustainable development goals.

For his part, the French Ambassador emphasized that the project responds to a pressing need for the population of Nouakchott, which is experiencing increasing demographic growth, stressing that France will continue its commitment to support Mauritania’s efforts in the field of water access.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms. Amal Maouloud, and a number of officials from the concerned sectors.
