The President of the National Union of Mauritanian Employers, Mr. Mohamed Zeine El Abidine Cheikh Ahmed, met on Thursday with H.E. Mr. Tang Zhongdong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritania.

The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral economic and trade relations, particularly in the context of the 61st anniversary of diplomatic ties. Welcoming the Ambassador, the President expressed his gratitude for the Ambassador’s proactive efforts to strengthen Mauritania–China relations. He highlighted the Union’s agreement with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, acknowledging that Chinese companies in Mauritania are Union members. He encouraged these firms to support Mauritania’s development by adhering to project deadlines, employing local labor and engineers, and transferring valuable expertise.

Furthermore, the President urged Chinese companies and investors to explore opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, energy, and minerals. He emphasized the advantages provided by Mauritania’s investment code and called for the establishment of direct maritime routes between China and Africa, citing their potential to lower shipping costs and boost the competitiveness of Chinese goods.

H.E. the Ambassador thanked the President for the warm reception and praised the productive meeting. He noted the exemption of all Mauritanian exports to China from customs duties, underscoring its positive impact on trade relations.
