Minister of Islamic Affairs hosts Iftar Banquet in Honor of a Number of Imams and Sheikhs

The Minister of Islamic Affairs and Original Education, Mr. Sidi Yahya Ould Cheikhna Ould Lemrabott, hosted an Iftar banquet in Nouakchott on Friday evening in honor of a number of imams and sheikhs of mahadhras.

In a speech on the occasion, the Minister stressed that the organization of this iftar comes as a reflection of the attention given by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to the scholars, imams and sheikhs of mahadhras, as they are beacons of knowledge, morality and moderation.

He pointed out that this interest is reflected in the material and moral support provided by the government to Islamic organizations, which has enabled them to fulfill their noble mission of advancing the Islamic field and promoting the values of moderation and rejecting violence and extremism.

He said the ministry has adopted a comprehensive strategy to develop the sector in all its components, and sought to make the holy month of Ramadan an opportunity to promote religious awareness by expanding activities to all provinces and districts of the country.

For his part, the President of the Union of Imams of Mauritania, Mr. Mohamed Lamine Ould Amhoud, praised the efforts made by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Original Education to support scholars, imams and sheikhs of mahadhras, praising this meeting as a gesture of appreciation for their important role in society.

The Iftar was held in the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Original Education, the head of the Dar al-Quran, a number of sector leaders, as well as a group of imams and sheikhs of the mahadhras
