President of the Republic emphasizes the Important role of Porters in the National Economic System

Nouakchott

H.E. President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, emphasized the importance of the role played by porters in the national economic system, given their distinct and effective mission within the independent port of Nouakchott, which is a vital facility for the country

In a speech during an iftar ceremony held Monday evening at the Nouakchott Autonomous Port in honor of the cargo, His Excellency said that this port, which is an important facility, constitutes the country’s interface with the outside world, both through economic movement and by supplying the country with its basic needs  and even luxury items in particular.

He pointed out that everything that has been achieved for the porters, whether in terms of improving their living conditions, professional conditions or apprenticeships, is an entitlement and gratitude to them, as they are the most important component of this vital and important facility.

His Excellency highlighted the need for national port workers to have the same professionalism and experience as their counterparts in various countries of the world, which provides two main advantages, the first of which is obtaining skill at work, and the second is practicing it safely and securely.

He recalled that he met in 2019 with representatives of the port workers in the independent port of Nouakchott, which is the largest port in the country, and since that date he started working to improve the conditions of this basic segment of our national workers, noting that all issues related to living and social conditions in general and the career path, whether related to retirement, health insurance or social security, are the rights of the porters.

He noted that great strides have been made in improving the conditions of pregnancy, and hoped that these gains would be consolidated with even better strides in the future.

His Excellency expressed his happiness to be present with the porters in this blessed iftar, wishing them an acceptable fast and a blessed Ramadan.
