Nouakchott

On Monday, HE President of the Republic, Chairperson of the African Union, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, sent the following cable of condolences to HE President of the Republic of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba:

“Mr. President.

It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of former Namibian President Sam Nujoma.

He was a prominent leader in Namibia’s struggle for independence and was credited with leading the SWAPO movement that contributed to the country’s independence and the building of the modern Namibian state and the preservation of Namibia’s unity.

On this sad occasion, on behalf of the Government and people of Mauritania, the African Union, the Namibian people and his family, I extend to you my deepest condolences and sympathy.

The legacy of the late President Sam Nujoma will continue to inspire future generations and remain a symbol of the struggle for freedom and independence on our African continent.

Your brother,

Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Chairperson of the African Union.
