President of the Republic, chairperson of the African Union, participates in the African Energy Summit in Tanzania

HE President of the Republic, chairperson of the African Union, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, participated in the African Energy Summit, which kicked off Tuesday morning in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania.

HE the President of the Republic and Chairperson of the African Union delivered a speech at the summit in which he pointed out that energy in general, and electricity in particular, represents one of the central pillars of development and improving the living conditions of the population, explaining that the availability of clean, sufficient and affordable electricity has a positive impact on various aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He indicate that the African continent will not achieve its industrial development, economic growth, victory over poverty and hunger and overcoming serious environmental challenges unless it overcomes the huge energy deficit, noting that nearly 600 million African citizens do not have access to electricity and live by candles and oil lamps.

The summit, organized by the African Union, the Republic of Tanzania, World Bank Group and the African Development Bank Group, was attended by African heads of state and government, regional and international banks, development partners, private enterprises, energy experts, civil society organizations and academia.

The summit will discuss solutions to achieve secure and reliable energy access and an inclusive and sustainable energy transition in order to accelerate the realization of the “Mission 300” project to bring 300 million people across Africa into electricity access by 2030.
