Minister of Agriculture receives Head of Arab Organization for Agricultural Investment and Development

Nouakchott

On Wednesday at his office in Nouakchott, Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Memma Ould Beibatta, received HE Dr. Dr. Obaid Saif Zaabi, Chairman of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development, at the head of a delegation of institutions and companies active in the field of agriculture, especially vegetables and wheat.

During the meeting, HE the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty gave a detailed presentation on our country’s priorities in the field of agricultural development and what it looks forward to in order to advance this vital and important sector.

He said that among the priorities that Mauritania needs to achieve the desired goals in the field of food security is the development of vegetable cultivation, given the country’s qualifications in this field in terms of fertile land and water in light of the strong political will of His Excellency President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani based on the exploitation of our natural resources and reliance on them to achieve food sovereignty.

In this context, he spoke about the accumulated experience of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Investment and Development, and the support Mauritania expects in the fields of preservation and refrigeration and support for the cultivation of the wheat crop on a large scale.

He added that the second priority is to provide tractors and harvesters and support training, framing and everything that would increase the performance of the agricultural sector in Mauritania.

He emphasized that the government is ready to work with AAAID to achieve what our country aspires to in the field of agricultural development and achieve food sovereignty for the country.

For his part, the President of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAIAD), reviewed the experience of his organization, which has existed for fifty years, noting that Mauritania has not received support from it at the level despite the diversity and abundance of investment opportunities.

He said that the new structure of the Authority based on participatory investment to ensure a holistic economy sets its sights on Mauritania by mobilizing some international institutions and companies active in the field of agriculture, companies that will add to Mauritanian agriculture by introducing new crops that respond to the needs of the market with a focus on wheat cultivation, technology transfer tools and the dissemination of modern technologies in the field.
