The Minister of Interior, Decentralization and Local Development Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine and his Senegalese counterpart, General Jean-Baptiste Tine, Minister of Interior and Public Security, held a session of talks to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two brotherly countries, especially in the field of the tasks assigned to the two countries’ interior sectors.
At the outset of the meeting, which is part of the visit of a high-level Senegalese delegation to our country headed by the Senegalese Prime Minister, the Minister of Interior, Decentralization and Local Development welcomed his Senegalese counterpart and his accompanying delegation, expressing the importance of this visit and reaffirming the strength and depth of the excellent historical, geographical and cultural ties between the two countries and the Mauritanian and Senegalese peoples.
The Minister of Interior, Decentralization and Local Development highlighted the pivotal role of the two countries’ interior sectors in facilitating the movement and residence of the citizens of the two countries, including the review of the agreements signed in this regard.
He recalled the need to draw up an agreement between the two countries in the field of illegal migration, in light of the agreements linking both countries with the European Union and Spain.
For his part, the Senegalese Minister of Interior and Public Security thanked the Minister of Interior, Decentralization and Local Development for the warmth and hospitality extended to the Senegalese delegation, stressing the convergence of views on all the important points discussed in this meeting.
The Senegalese Minister praised Mauritania’s efforts to promote fruitful cooperation with Senegal.
