The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ms. Messouda Baham Mohamed Laghdaf , held on Monday in Baku, Azerbaijan, a bilateral meeting with Catherine Kffman, Director of Africa at the Green Climate Fund (GCF), in the presence of aides from both parties.
During the meeting, the Minister gave a brief presentation on the significant GCF resources that Mauritania has been able to access, how they have been utilized and the results obtained.
She reviewed Mauritania’s vulnerability as well as the alignment of the sectoral climate strategy and INDCs with national policies for inclusive development, especially the strategy for accelerated growth and shared prosperity.
the Minister urged the importance of the Fund’s endorsement of the Siraga project and the Four Poles project, which intervenes in areas affected by climate change.
For her part, the GCF’s Africa Director appreciated the valuable presentation made by the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, which enabled her to obtain a clear vision of Mauritania’s climate characteristics, its financial needs and its strategic and political efforts in the fight against climate change.
She assured the GCF’s Africa Director that she will include Mauritania in the list of the most vulnerable countries in need of support from this donor organization.
