Energy Minister holds Talks with Millennium Challenge Corporation President and Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy

the Minister of Energy and Petroleum Mohamed Ould Khaled, accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Finance Sid’Ahmed Ould Bouh, held talks with Ms. Alice Albright, CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in Washington, United States of America, on Thursday.
The discussions focused on MCC’s programs in our country, of which energy projects are among the most important.
The Minister also held talks with the Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy, Mr. Brad Crabtree, accompanied by some of his senior aides.
The meeting dealt with various cooperation files, especially those related to renewable energies, gas and the hydrogen sector.
The Minister also met with the team of Power Africa, which finances energy projects in Africa, especially the Sahel region, and discussed supporting Mauritania in the implementation of important strategic projects such as the production of electricity from gas, institutional support to Somelec and promoting its reform.
USAID’s Power Africa is the institutional framework through which the U.S. government implements the Sahel Energy Assistance Program (SEAP).
Power Africa leverages the combined resources of the public and private sectors to implement energy projects aimed at doubling access to electricity in the sub-Saharan region, and according to official information, Power Africa aims to add at least 30,000 megawatts of electricity production capacity and reach the goal of 60 million new electricity subscribers in the region by 2030.
