Ministers of Economy and Finance and Delegate in Charge of the Budget hold Consultations with a Delegation from the IMF

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Sid’r Ahmed Ould Bouh, accompanied by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the budget, Mr. Kodioro Moussa Engnor, held on Thursday evening a session of consultations with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) currently visiting our country, headed by Mr. Felix Fischer.

The meeting, which was attended by a number of senior officials in the economic and financial sector, is part of the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s support for the activities of the IMF mission on the third review of agreements in the areas of the “Extended Credit Facility”, the “Extended Support Mechanism” and the “Resilience and Sustainability Facilitation Mechanism”.

During the meeting, the Minister appreciated the high level of technical and financial support provided by the Fund to our country to keep pace with the major reform workshops carried out by the government at the financial and economic levels to advance development.

The Minister also reiterated the reforms undertaken by Mauritania through the design and implementation of sound fiscal policies and economic measures implemented during the last period, which enabled the enhancement of capacity building, the increase of internal revenues, the management of public finances and monetary policy in an acceptable manner, as well as the organization of the financial system and the development of statistical systems.

The Minister also issued directives to senior sector officials to intensify efforts and coordination to overcome the challenges that could hinder the path of structural reforms put in place by the authorities with the support of the Fund to ensure that they meet all standards of good performance.

For his part, His Excellency the Minister Delegate shared the vision of His Excellency the Minister of Economy and Finance, stressing the readiness of the various frameworks of the sector to accompany the mission and facilitate its tasks, while continuing to ensure the implementation of these reforms until they bear fruit.

For his part, the IMF Chief of Mission, Felix Fischer, thanked the Mauritanian authorities for their cooperation, praising Mauritania’s good performance in implementing these reforms, stressing that they are on the right track, by improving fiscal frameworks, monetary policy, exchange market flexibility and governance, which in the future constitutes a suitable ground to attract investors.
