President of Republic Receives IMF Executive Director

On 1 October, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic and Chairman of the African Union, received Mr. Regis Nsonde, the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF),  representative of the second African group, including Mauritania, at the IMF Board of Directors.

The meeting focused on the cooperative relations between our country and the IMF and the means to develop them and make them evolve toward achieving the desired objectives.

At the end of the meeting, the IMF Executive Director made a statement in which he expressed his gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic and Chairman of the African Union, for the welcome he received and the excellent cooperation he received from all the Mauritanian authorities.

Mr. Regis Nsonde praised the remarkable leadership of the President of the Republic in the service of the African Union. He explained that he discussed with the President of the Republic issues of interest to Mauritania and the African continent, including debt, security, financial reforms, and bilateral relations between Mauritania and the IMF.

He praised Mauritania’s good performance in recent years in the context of structural reforms, stressing that he wanted to make this visit to testify to this.
