Launch of a Workshop to review Environmental Information System Data

A workshop to update and validate data in the environmental information system, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development in cooperation with the World Bank, kicked off Thursday in Nouakchott.

The workshop aims to improve performance and enhance transparency in the field of environmental data management, which is part of the work carried out by the environment and sustainable development sector.

In a speech on the occasion, the person in charge of a mission at the Office of the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Mohamed Abdullah Salma, Acting Secretary General of the Ministry, explained that this workshop is an opportunity to appreciate the efforts made by the Environment and Sustainable Development Sector to enhance the environmental database, which constitutes the basis for future work and a tributary of accurate data that allows fruitful work in accordance with the high directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, who is supervised by the Government under the supervision of the Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Diay. on its application.

He urged the participants to benefit from the discussions and knowledge derived from rich experiences in preparation for building a common information ecosystem, thanking our development partners, especially the World Bank, for keeping pace with Mauritania’s efforts in the field of environmental preservation.

For his part, Director of Planning, Coordination and Follow-up of Programs and Statistics at the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Mohamed Lamine Ould Ahmed Salem Ould Boufra, pointed out that the thinking about the environmental information system began with the support of sector partners based on several experiences in the region.

He added that work on the project continued during the past years, where it was evaluated, studied and re-updated with partners and civil society to form a solid basis for the ministry’s strategy.

He pointed out that the current workshop aims to improve the performance of the environmental information system, warning that the current environmental challenges require the inclusion of all environmental indicators within the system and work to achieve an effective and unified response in which everyone participates within the exchange of information and experiences and exploring best practices that will help everyone achieve common goals.
