Opening of the First Scientific Day on Emergency Medicine in Mauritania

Nouakchott

In collaboration with its counterpart in Madrid, Spain, the Foundation for Emergency Medical Aid Services (SAMI) organized on Thursday in Nouakchott the first scientific day of emergency medicine in Mauritania.

The Foundation aims to enrich the debate and deepen the dialogue on the most effective ways to create qualified personnel equipped with all the necessary equipment and supplies to intervene quickly whenever the need arises. The day’s programme will also include the presentation of four specialized practical sessions for emergency medical workers.

In his speech on the occasion, The Minister of Health, Abdallah Sidi Mohamed Wedih, explained that emergency medical services intervene to treat diseases and injuries that require an urgent medical response at the patient’s location and, if necessary, transfer him to a hospital institution for care after prior coordination, stressing that for the same reason, the health sector attaches special importance to emergency medicine in both its two forms: pre-hospital and hospital, in implementation of the programme of the President of the Republic, HE. Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, ‘My Ambition for the Nation’, whose implementation is overseen by the government of Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Diay.

He added that the emergency medical aid was created as part of the ‘my priorities’ programme of HE the President of the Republic during his first term in the health field.

Emergency medicine was recently transformed into a scientific institution with an administrative character to enable it to play its role to the fullest, he said, adding that all the necessary means have been provided for the success of this pioneering experiment through the provision of qualified medical staff and a fleet of 64 equipped ambulances.

He congratulated the crews of the emergency medical aid for their hard work and honorable results, wishing them success in this forum, which will allow, through 4 specialized workshops, to discuss and exchange experiences on the most effective ways of dealing with the most widespread emergency cases in the country and the world.

He thanked all technical and financial partners, especially the Spanish cooperation for its continuous support to the sector, especially in the field of emergency medicine.
