Mauritania IMF Supported Economic and Social Programmes Workshop Review

Nouakchott

The Ministry of Economy and Finance organised on Wednesday in Nouakchott a workshop to reiterate and examine the economic and social programmes in Mauritania supported by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In its meeting on 19 December 2023, the IMF Board of Directors stated that Mauritania’s economic reform programme, supported by the Extended Credit Facility and Extended Borrowing Facility agreements with the Fund, seeks to maintain macroeconomic stability, strengthen the budgetary and monetary policy framework, consolidate the foundations of a sustainable and inclusive economy, and combat poverty.

The Assistant Governor of the Central Bank of Mauritania said that the strong partnership between Mauritania and the IMF, and the continued support of development partners, will enable a more solid economy with faster, more sustainable and inclusive growth, calling for seizing this opportunity to lay the foundations for a future where economic stability is aligned with inclusive development and successful intergovernmental transition.

The Resilience and Sustainability Facilitation Programme focuses on enhancing resilience to climate shocks and transitioning towards a green and sustainable economy, noting that this integration provides a comprehensive approach to address the economic, social and environmental challenges faced by Mauritania, paving the way for long-term prosperity.
