Mauritania, World Bank Discuss Ways To Strengthen Cooperation in Digitalization Field

On 9 September, in Nouakchott, Mr. Khaled Abidine Sidi, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Modernization of Administration, held a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank Group, led by Mr. Ousmane Diagana, the Bank’s Vice President for West and Central Africa.

In a speech on this occasion, the Secretary General of the Ministry indicated that the meeting focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between Mauritania and the World Bank in the field of digitalization in general.

He added that during the visit, the delegation was able to obtain detailed information on the operation of the national fiber optic network financed by the World Bank, which has been operational since 2021. This network has contributed significantly to improving the quality of telecommunications services, particularly in terms of accelerating the dissemination of 4G services within the country. He explained that the ministry is currently working with the World Bank to expand this network within the framework of the WARDIP project.

He stressed that the World Bank delegation was informed, during its visit today to the submarine cable operating station, of the services it provides, assuring that the government is currently working to improve the performance of this station to cover the growing needs of the country and is implementing an ambitious strategy to market excess capacity outside the country.
